Echoing with the previous podcast, as ministers to the people, we shall not be scared of being laughed at when pointing out the truth, or being vulnerable to laugh at ourselves without taking negative comments too personally. This is where the narrative preaching takes place: instead of solely exegeting Scripture, it exegeses the people too, stepping in and making it relatable, connecting to life and moving the message into heart. This is the hardest preaching skills for student from Dr Glenn Watson’s observation. He also mentioned: “Great preaching is always integrated with life of ministry, living in relationship with people.” I have witnessed how people are being very attentive when a testimony is shared, and they remember those (my, too) stories! With the combination of Scripture’s truth, the sermon is much more powerful and persuasive. I remembered one time my preacher at church shared a story of a girl buying shoes for the mother who is going to die, and the story telling was good that some of us (including me) cries, and I still remembered the theme of that sermon is to share joy with those surrounding us. The technique is to start with the tension/problem that humanity has and needs to be solved, first act: development of tension, posing quest to explore it, and leading to the last climax to resolution.
