Jester is a new term to me, in which Jesters have the wisdom to speak to people’s lives with irony, parables, humour, and so many other tactics.

I never realise Ahab was commanding Micaiah to speak the truth or noticing Micaiah was sarcastic in 2 Chronicles 18, I always thought the king was saying finally Micaiah spoke “truth” because it aligns with what he wanted to hear, after so many instances that Ahab hate those bad speeches from Micaiah. Tragically, King Ahab is just like the shadow of many, who want to know the truth and could not stand the sarcastic of Micaiah, but actually not willing to follow after hearing. No wonder the Scripture said in Isaiah 6:10, Matthew 13:14-15 Mark 4:12 that they will not understand, the foolish of the world “wisdom” has blinded them. This powerful but also humiliating way to visualise gospel also reminds me of Ezekiel, whom been told to bake bread with human excrement as fuel (Ezekiel 4:12). It definitely looks very foolish to the others, his wife or even to himself, yet this is God’s way to express and symbolise the impurity of people, in order to provoke repentance.

“Able to speak power,” the prophet illustrations have been enlightening examples of Jesters, and how they encourages the pastors and ministers to be a truth teller with wisdom. Our roles have duty to tell the truth even at the stake of persecution. I appreciate how Dr. Piva denotes the importance of laughter, which I want to describe as “joy,” is such a strong weapon against the power of evil and how it will develop our ethos as truth-tellers when we are well-equipped with joy in the times of hardship.

    Thank you, Dr. Piva.
This podcast reminds me of the John Crist, whom I think is a contemporary Christian jester.
